Decals:

1) WindowAlert decals may be used only on an exterior glass surface -- free of any overlay, tinting, film, or coating. (Most modern glass does not have coatings on the exterior; any coatings are safely located between double-panes. Contact your local glass contractor for confirmation.)

2) Clean glass thoroughly. Make sure glass is free of chemicals and cleaners before applying decals.

3) Decals are best applied when glass is warm (greater than 50 degress Fahrenheit). If applied during winter months, clean glass with warm water prior to application.

4) Peel decal from paper backing. The same side that was against the paper goes the against the glass.

5) Place decals on the outside of the window. CONCENTRATE decals at the center and then work out, placing decals every few feet of glass. Position OUT OF REACH of infants and small children.

6) Restore static cling by rinsing decal in lukewarm water. (Not applicable for low-tack decals.)

7) The UV coating may fade based on exposure and local elevation. Replace decals every 6 to 9 months.

UV Liquid:

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

1) WindowAlert™ UV Liquid may be used only on an exterior glass surface -- free of any overlay, tinting, lm or coating.

2) Clean glass thoroughly. Make sure glass is free of chemicals and cleaners before applying UV Liquid.

3) Shake UV Liquid gently prior to usage.

4) For best results, use both WindowAlert UV Decals and UV Liquid together on glass. Place decals every few feet of glass. Protect remaining areas by gently touching UV Liquid marker to glass, forming a dot. WindowAlert decals have the greatest UV reectivity and thus garner the most attention from birds. UV Liquid dots help ll in the gaps.

5) Attempt to create a “visual barrier” across glass surfaces. The more decals and the more UV Liquid used, the safer the glass.

6) Dry time is approximately 60 minutes at 60 degrees Fahrenheit. UV Liquid goes on purple and dries to clear. (In rare instances, insects such as no-see-ums may be attracted to and caught in wet UV Liquid. If so, apply when insects are not present.) While drying, UV Liquid can be contaminated by windborne dust or pollen. For best results, apply during calm weather with low pollen count.

7) UV Liquid will fade based on exposure and local elevation. Re-apply every 3 months. (UV Decals and UV Liquid may be tested by purchasing a WindowAlert UV Tester light.)

REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS

1) Choose a cloudy or cool day so water and cleaning agents do not evaporate quickly.

2) Rinse glass with water. Remove natural dust and grime with squeegee.

3) Apply ammonia-based window cleaner to glass and allow it to soak for a minute or more. Then, remove residual UV Liquid particles with an absorbent cloth or sponge.

4) Rinse window and squeegee clean.

CAUTION

Application to commercial building or sizable expanse of glass must be tested for easy application and removal before applying to entire structure. Allow test application to cure one week before testing removal.

Stop Bird Attack:

1) If Stop Bird Attack has been exposed to freezing conditions, allow sufficient time to thaw prior to use. Container must be kept at room temperature (70F/21C) for several hours before spraying.

2) Apply several light coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow drying time between coats. Drying time will depend upon the thickness of the coating and the ambient temperature and humidity, but may require several hours.

3) To apply Stop Bird Attack, hold can upright 12 to 18 inches from surface to be sprayed. Point valve opening toward surface and press. For small flakes, move can closer to surface until desired effect is achieved. For larger flakes, move can away from surface to be sprayed.

4) After spraying, turn can upside down and depress valve for several seconds to clean out spray left in nozzle.

5) Avoid spraying on furniture, woodwork, walls, curtains, rugs, and tinted film on window surfaces. Dry Stop Bird Attack can be cleaned up with a brush, broom or vacuum.

6) To remove Stop Bird Attack from windows, brush off loose particles. Spray glass generously with glass cleaner. Allow to soak for 30 seconds. Remove with a squeegee, or with a paper towel.

CAUTION

Contents under pressure. DO NOT PUNCTURE OR INCINERATE. Do not use or store near heat, sparks, open flame, red hot surfaces or other sources of ignition, in direct sunlight or where temperature will exceed 120F (49C). Use in a well-ventilated area only. Do not intentionally inhale vapor or spray mist. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents can be harmful or fatal. Not recommended for use by anyone with a history of asthma or other respiratory problems, or anyone who is ultra-sensitive to airborne particles. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of skin or eye contact, flush with water. Do not take internally. Do not apply to surfaces that are within the reach of children or pets. Do not allow children and pets to eat spray.

Danger Zones:

1) Bird strikes often occur when birds perceive a LINE OF FLIGHT through one window of your home and out another. This also occurs on buildings with corners made of glass. In these situations, position your decals to block a bird’s perceived line of flight.

2) Bird strikes may occur when birds see OPEN SKY reflected in your window. This may occur on certain windows or areas of a window based on the time of day or orientation to the sun. Use your decals to break up this reflection of open sky.

3) Bird strikes are often a problem near BIRD FEEDERS. Bird feeders should be positioned closer than 3 feet or farther than 30 feet from your windows. Feeding birds are easily frightened and then take wild, evasive flight. If your feeder is close to the window, birds fly away from the house. Believe it or not, the safest feeders are window feeders which attach to the window itself. You may find such feeders on this website.

4) Bird strikes are a problem with highly-reflective windows, windows near bodies of water, and windows near indoor mirrors. These situations may be difficult to remedy.

FAQ:

Q. How many decals are in an envelope?

• There are 4 WindowAlert decals in each envelope.

Q. Do the decals adhere to the windows due to static electricity or is an adhesive involved? (How do the decals stick?)

• The Maple Leaf, Leaf Medley, Hawk, and Butterfly decals are “static cling."

• The Hummingbird, Square, and Snowflake decal designs are more intricate and thus at greater risk for blowing off a window in strong winds. To prevent this, we use a “low tack” adhesive on these decals.

• Both static-cling and low-tack decals remove easily from glass. Occasionally, a residue of dust will exist at the outline of the decal. This may be easily removed with warm water and soap.

Q. Can you take the decals off of the windows and put them back on?

• Static cling decals can be removed and later re-installed on a window. Prior to re-installation, restore the static cling by rinsing the decals in warm water.

• Low-tack decals cannot be removed and re-installed.

Q. Can you wash the windows with the decals on?

• Yes. If you leave the decals on the window and use a squeegee to wipe down your window, it may leave a halo around the decal. This halo can be patted off the window with a clean towel.

Q. Can you see the decals when viewed from the inside of the house? Or can you see through the decals?

• The decals have a frosted appearance for humans. At night, the decals can hardly be seen at all.

Q. Do the decals work if they are placed on the inside of the window?

• The decals are approximately 25% as effective when attached to the inside of the window. This is because most of the UV light reflected by the decal is absorbed or diffused by the glass.

Q. Can the decals be placed on surfaces other than glass?

• Because of the “static cling” provisions of the Maple Leaf and Butterfly, these decals adhere best to glass surfaces. The Hummingbird, Snowflake and Square decals utilize a "low-tack" adhesive and may be applied to plastic or plexi-glass.

• The decals should not be placed on windows that have overlays – such as tinting products.

Q. How long will the decals last?

• Our decals have a coating that brilliantly reflects ultraviolet light. Like any product, man-made or natural, our decals will degrade when exposed to the elements. Sunlight, inclement weather, and higher elevations will all result in faster degradation of the decals. Depending upon these variables, decals should be replaced every 6 to 9 months.

Window Tinting:

There are primarily TWO kinds of tinted windows:

EXTERIOR TINT: Many older windows were treated with an exterior FILM or LIQUID COATING. Most of these coatings were after-market products. Most were guaranteed for a limited time, such as 3-4 years. Our decals should NOT be placed directly on THESE EXTERIOR COATINGS! If our decal is placed on such tinting products, our decal may in some instances accelerate the inevitable flaking and chipping of these tinting products.

INTERIOR TINT: Today, after-market tinting products are most often applied to the INTERIOR side of glass. This protects the coating from degradation due to inclement weather, direct exposure to sun, etc. Because our decals should be applied to the EXTERIOR side of the glass, our decal touches only GLASS (not the tint coating) and there is no risk of damage.

Glass that has been tinted at the factory today most often has the coating applied IN BETWEEN the double-paned glass. This is the best of all worlds in that no one can touch the tinted coating. The coating is not exposed to the elements and cannot be scratched during installation. Again, because our decals should be applied to the EXTERIOR side of the glass, our decal touches only GLASS (not the tint coating) and there is no risk of damage.
